July 21, 2023
Torquay Cricket Club is pleased to announce that John Fisher has been appointed women’s coach for season 2023-24.
A key member of the men’s First XI team at the Tigers for the past three seasons, John stepped into the women’s coaching role midway through last summer, helping the side to a preliminary final.
John said he was grateful for the opportunity to coach the women’s team in 2023-24.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the team build on the strong finish of last season,” he said.
“I hope to help build an encouraging environment for players of all standards to achieve their best, and continue to strengthen the relationship between the senior men’s and women’s playing groups.”
An experienced coach and outstanding club person, John coached the Tigers’ under-17 boys in 2021-22 and 2022-23, and has also joined the club’s committee.
Currently playing cricket and teaching in England, he will take the helm of the women’s team when he returns home at the end of the northern summer.
Torquay women’s coordinator Paige Zotti said: “John was an incredible coach last year. He is very knowledgeable about the game and understands our balance of having fun, but also wanting to improve.
“We are looking forward to hearing about his English cricket adventures and using his tips for another enjoyable summer of cricket.”
The Tigers have been building the women’s program over the past few years and it has flourished.
The women’s players’ energy and passion has been contagious.
Torquay Cricket Club is seeking expressions of interest from potential women’s, men’s and junior (boys and girls) players for the upcoming season. All playing standards and levels of experience are welcome. Please email torquaytigerscc@gmail.com.
